Not E3: Sony is planning a PlayStation 5 event for June 3

The PlayStation 5 is only a few months away from its launch in 2020, but we still don't know everything about the device. That will change soon. According to sources familiar with the company's plans, Sony is planning a PS5 event for June 3. Bloomberg is to confirm this date separately.

It is important to note that this is only the current plan. The company is trying to stop promoting PS5, but it also knows that it must remain flexible during the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. While the June 3 release should offer the best view of the PS5 so far, don't expect Sony to reveal every detail about the next generation system. The company could hold back the price and free up the time for another date. The price of the PS5 is still subject to fluctuations. Sony wants to start at a competitive price, but doesn't want to accept hardware losses either.

Sony also doesn't have to worry too much about games that will be shown on June 3rd. The company is planning follow-up events. This includes a status of the game that focuses on both next-generation and current-generation games. This state of affairs has a preliminary schedule for early August. Again, this could shift drastically depending on a number of factors.

Then what will Sony show next week? Expect it to focus on what is possible in next generation games with the PlayStation 5. The company appears to be aware of the backlash Microsoft was facing at its first Xbox 20/20 event. The fans were dissatisfied with the lack of gameplay in this presentation. In response, Sony wants to rely on PS5 games that actually run on real hardware.
