The ROG Zephyrus G14 from Asus is now available with a hidden LED display on the lid

The Asus ROG Zephyrus G14 can now be configured with an LED dot matrix display hidden in the lid. A new model costs $ 1,999.99, Asus announced today. This “AniMe Matrix” display consists of 1,215 mini-LEDs, each of which supports 256 brightness levels and can be used to display music visualizers, GIFs or an animated logo from your preferred technology website (see above).

Aside from its striking exterior, the technical specifications of the Zephyrus G14 are excellent. According to Asus, it is equipped with an AMD Ryzen 9 4900HS CPU and an Nvidia GeForce RTX 2060 GPU. There is 16 GB of RAM and a 1 TB NVMEe M.2 SSD. When reviewing the $ 1,449 version of the laptop (unfortunately without a dot matrix lid), we found that these specifications offered excellent gaming performance, and we only achieved a remarkable battery life of eight hours and 50 minutes in our tests – although unclear is what influence the additional dot matrix display could have here.

This performance makes the G14 an excellent laptop for content consumption and gaming. However, if you need a laptop for office use, you should look elsewhere. That's because the 14-inch screen has a respectable 1440p format, but it also has an aspect ratio of 16: 9, which is a bit short for productivity tasks. There is also no built-in webcam that limits your video conferencing ability on the go.

According to Asus, the ROG Zephyrus G14 is now available with the AniMe Matrix LED display White or Gray from US retailers. At the time of writing, the official Asus store lists both models as "coming soon", but it shouldn't take long for this to change.
